Library Collection
The Library was having 13,480 books and 204 journals at the time of independence; whereas at present the Library possesses more than 2.6 lakhs of documents covering all branches of knowledge. However, as already stated the collection of the Library is very strong in social science subjects especially in Economics and other related disciplines. Other than books, the collection of the library includes bound volumes of 1873 journal titles, about 400 unpublished theses and dissertations and some microfilms, floppies, CDs, and maps. The Library is a depository library of the publications of the United Nations and its agencies, the World Bank, the European Economic Community, the International Monetary Fund, and the Government of Canada. Besides books, the Library also receives 445 current periodical titles including almost all leading English language journals.

Books on Economics:
The Library has a very good collection of books on Economics and its allied subjects. Its holdings of literature on Indian economic history and land legislation in particular are most comprehensive and unique. It has also quite a fair collection of books on agricultural economics, Indian economy and also reports of committees and commissions. The other significant features of this section are:
- The library possesses complete collection of EXIM Bank Occasional Paper Series, Essays in International Finance Series and Princeton Papers in International Finance Series of the Princeton University, Research papers of International Food Policy Research Institute, World Watch papers of World Watch Institute and some other institutions like OECD Development Centre, Institute of Economics, etc.
- The Library has almost all complete sets of different policy documents and committee/commission reports pertaining to Indian economy. It also has all the documents pertaining to planning in India
- The library stocks almost complete collection of different types of publications of Reserve Bank of India, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), and also lead bank reports.
- The library has built up a strong collection of books on Environmental Economics with the financial assistance under World Bank grant for capacity building in Environmental Economics.

Rare Books:
The Library possesses quite a large number of books published before the advent of twentieth century and which may not be available elsewhere. The oldest book in the Library dates back to 1680. Besides, there are quite a few hundred books which were published during the 18th and 19th centuries. |
